Legal Geek wins grant

The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) has awarded Legal Geek, and our friends at CodeBase, a £3 million to accelerate the growth of #LawTech across the UK. More details will be published shortly, but here are some FAQ’s to help provide some more context:

How will winning the grant affect Legal Geek?

Legal Geek is business as usual! This year (2023) we have launched two brand new conferences and our sponsorship sold out in record time, by mid-Feb. Before winning the grant, we had already increased our team size and Legal Geek will continue to be run by Jimmy Vestbirk and Beth Fellner. A new team will be hired to run the grant activity, which will operate under the brand LawtechUK. Apply for job.

Who are CodeBase?

We jointly bid for this grant with CodeBase. They are a tech ecosystem support organisation that has supported over 500 startups and scaleups. They provide space for startups to grow, delivers expert educational programmes and industry accelerators, and fosters connections through bridge programmes, events, meetups, and mentorship matching.

What will we do?

All grant activity will run under the brand name LawtechUK, run by CodeBase and Legal Geek on behalf of the Ministry of Justice. We plan to build off the foundations built already and have a programme of activities planned that will showcase the UK as an excellent place for lawtech innovation. We will grow the lawtech community across the UK, raise the quality of startups, increase private investment, facilitate the exchange of information between service providers and lawtech businesses, and generate industry-level views that shape the UK’s lawtech agenda.

When will you publish more?

We formally took over LawTechUK on the 1st April 2023, we are currently recruiting and will be updating the website. More news to follow in the coming months.
