How to stay cool (and keep your dogs cool) working from home
Legal Geek - 21/07/2021

The UK has been experiencing a heatwave recently and the Met Office has issued its first extreme hot weather warning, ever! After over a year of working from home, we have long forgotten the comfort of our office air conditioning.

Here are some tips to stay cool while working from home

  • Turbocharge your fan

Fans are in short supply during a heatwave, but if you have one you can improve its performance by putting a two-litre bottle of water in the freezer and placing it between the fan and you, which will help to cool the air.

  • Cool your pulse points

Your feet, ankles, wrists, neck and behind your knees are your pulse points, cooling them will in effect cool your whole body. Try freezing a hot water bottle or wet cloth and placing them on your pulse points.

  • Hydrate, but not with coffee!

Drinking a morning coffee can increase your body temperature, try substituting it for plenty of water!

  • Unplug electronics

By now our home offices are full of chargers and screens. Unplug any electronics you are not using to reduce the heat in your home office.

Something for the kids…

Have you ever made fruit ice lolly?

The perfect smoothie will work perfectly as an ice lolly, or you can use fresh or frozen fruits. Throw everything into a blender, whizz up and pour into your ice lolly mould, then freeze. We’ve tried to give measurements to make approximately 3-4 ice lollies but adjust to suit.

Strawberry, Mango and Orange juice

  • Handful of strawberries
  • Half a mango (or handful of frozen mango)
  • 50ml orange juice

As you know, at Legal Geek we love dogs too, here are a few ways you can keep your dogs cool in the heat

  • If you own a Tesla be sure to check out ‘dog mode’ when parking up with the dog inside:

  • Don’t walk your dog during the hottest hours of the day. Take them out early in the morning or late at night
  • Give them ice cubes as dog ice lollies
  • Buy a small paddling pool and keep it in the shade for them
  • Make sure to groom them regularly
  • And if they really do want to sunbathe, get them some dog-safe suncream

We hope you enjoy the sun and have a good summer!
